To Corpus!

Hey, Everyone!
So I’m starting a new story today. Yes, I’m still doing my St. Michael thing, but, I’ll also be doing a series about our trip to Corpus Christi back in August of 2025. We went there for our...get ready...43rd Wedding Anniversary.
Whoa.
This series is going to be a little short, I’m afraid. That’s partly because I didn’t take notes while I was there. I wanted to focus on Martha so I put up the old notebook and just tried to “be here, now.”
But I did take a bunch of pictures. So, I’ll be posting a lot of those.
About the photos: First, one of the more impressive buildings in Lockhart, the Caldwell County Courthouse. Second, Martha enjoying her brisket sandwich. Third, my pork ribs. All excellent! And, finally, downtown Lockhart, with the Southwest Museum of Clocks and Watches.
Anyway, we picked Corpus because Martha wanted to see the sea again. And, besides, we’d never been there, which meant it was new and interesting. So, Martha made the reservations, I loaded up the car, and off we went.
It’s a three to four hour drive from where we live in Georgetown, and I’ll spare you the details of a long and rather uninteresting trip. There was, however, one highpoint. We passed through Lockhart, Texas, which is a cool little city to our south. Among other attractions, it is the home of one of our favorite musicians, James McMurtry.(1) (If you ever get a chance to see him perform, definitely do so.)
Also, Lockhart is famed for its Barbecue. Indeed, according to Wikipedia, “In 1999, the Texas Legislature proclaimed Lockhart the ‘Barbecue Capital of Texas.’”(2) And I can see why. It seems like there’s a BBQ restaurant on every corner, and they are all pretty darn good.
This trip, we ate at “The Original Black’s Barbecue,” and I’m delighted that we did.(3) I had the ribs. Martha got the brisket. Again, if you get a chance, be sure to drop by for a few lovely pounds of meat.
From there, we headed off toward Corpus Christi. We didn’t know it, but we were going to have a mostly nice time...with a few bumps in the road, but there always are...and we’d see sea, and sky, and some remarkable architecture, some of which you’d swear was in Cuba or Miami, but which in fact is a product the city’s unique history.
So stay tuned. Lots more to come.

P.S. Special Note: Don’t forget I’ll be running my series on Michael the Archangel on my website. I’ll post a link here when the next episode is up and running--which should be next Thursday. In it, we’ll be looking at how our boy St. Mike might have been around, but hidden, at the very dawn of Israel.

Care to help out?
I provide these blog postings for free. That’s fine and I’m happy to do so. But, long ago and far away, I was told that if you give away your material, that means you don’t really think it has any value.
So, to get beyond that, I’ve decided to make it possible for you to leave me a “tip” for my posts.
If you like what I write or the videos I produce, and feel you could make a small contribution to support my efforts, please go here:
That will take you to a Gumroad page where you’ll have the option of leaving me a few pence by way of encouragement.
Again, I don’t mind if you don’t. I just want to provide you with the option so that I won’t feel quite so much like I’m just tossing my works into the wind.
Either way, thanks hugely for dropping by the blog :-)
