The Butcher of Bucha

Updated: Apr 30, 2022

By this time, you won’t need me to tell you about the horrors being discovered in Ukraine. As Russian forces have pulled back from Kyiv and vicinity, they have left behind death and destruction. There are literally bodies in the streets…civilians, mostly, many of them with their hands tied behind their backs, shot and then abandoned without remorse or pity by an “army” that is nothing more than a brutal, bestial mob.

It is not for nothing that Putin is even now being called “The Butcher of Bucha,” (after the little city left in ruins by the retreating Russians). But, the grim fact is that other scenes, equally horrific, will doubtlessly be discovered in the rest of the country as the Russians move toward their strongpoints in Eastern Ukraine.

It is clear, now, that NATO, America, and the West must stand firm, must assist Ukraine in every possible way (short of nuclear war), and must do everything in their power to assure that Putin exits the scene in some fashion in the very near future.

It is also clear that President Biden was absolutely right when he called Putin a killer who must not be allowed to remain in power.

But…there is more. And it is worse.

The inescapable reality is that Donald Trump and the whole of the GOP, not to mention Fox News (and in particular Tucker Carlson), have consistently and energetically supported Putin. They have praised him, flattered him, excused him, and…pretty plainly…wished to emulate him in his seizure of power.

What this means is they are not to be trusted, and, indeed, must be regarded as a genuine danger to America and the world.

In November, not to mention 2024, when they go to the polls, American voters must…must!…keep firmly in mind those images of Bucha and beyond…those pictures and videos of the dead lying in heaps …

And recall that it was the Republican Party, headed by Trump, who justified a monster…

Even while women and children were slaughtered in the streets.

Until next time.

Onward and upward.

Walking To Wimberley

Welcome to Wimberley, Texas—where the cypress trees lean over lazy rivers, the cowboy boots are ten feet tall (and painted like rainbows), and the coffee shops echo with guitars and gossip.

In Walking to Wimberley, Michael Jay Tucker invites you to join him on a meandering, thoughtful, and often hilarious journey through one of Texas’s most charming Hill Country towns. Based on his popular blog entries, this collection of travel essays explores Wimberley’s art, history, music, and mystery—with the dry wit of a seasoned traveler and the wide-eyed wonder of a first-time visitor.

Whether he’s hunting for the perfect taco, pondering the existential meaning of oversized footwear, or just trying to find parking on market day, Tucker brings Wimberley to life with style, warmth, and just a hint of mischief.

Come for the scenery. Stay for the stories. Bring your boots.
