Rome Is Not Happy

You may recall that a while back I wrote a piece that mentioned, sort of in passing, that some Catholic Bishops were thinking of denying President Joe Biden communion because he’s pro-choice. (See “Odds & Ends…and odder, and ender,” https://www.michaeljaytucker.com/post/odds-ends-and-odder-and-ender).

You may also recall that I said it wasn’t such a great idea since doing such a thing would alienate millions of American Catholics, particularly younger or liberal ones, who would effectively identify the Church with Trumpism and bone-headed stupidity from then on out.

Well, I’m happy to report that the Vatican is not exactly thrilled with the American Bishops and their little scheme. Check out this article on NPR, “Vatican Warns U.S. Bishops About Denying Communion To Supporters Of Abortion Rights,” by Sylvia Poggioli, May 11, 202110:49 AM ET, https://www.npr.org/2021/05/11/995796836/vatican-warns-u-s-bishops-about-denying-communion-to-supporters-of-abortion-righ.

According to Ms. Poggioli, Rome sent a little note warning them to think twice about messing with “pro-choice,” (the letter used the term) political figures.

Watch it, dudes.

In a word, whoa.

Nice to know that sometimes…every now and then…I can, you know, sort of anticipate the thinking of those with friends in very high places…

As in Pearly Gates style high places.

And we’re not talking the redesign for the White House Trump had in mind if he’d gotten a second term.

Based on his popular blog entries, this collection of travel essays explores Wimberley’s art, history, music, and mystery—with the dry wit of a seasoned traveler and the wide-eyed wonder of a first-time visitor.

Whether he’s hunting for the perfect taco, pondering the existential meaning of oversized footwear, or just trying to find parking on market day, Tucker brings Wimberley to life with style, warmth, and just a hint of mischief.

Come for the scenery. Stay for the stories. Bring your boots.
