More On GOP And Education…On Camera

ree

And now he's a state senator. And a Republican.

So here’s another story of Republicans being totally whacked about public schools. According to an article in the online publication, Iowa Starting Line, an Iowa House Republican has introduced a bill that would put spy cameras in every classroom so that parents, guardians and other authorities could keep track of what teachers were saying and doing every minute of the day.(1)

No. I’m not making that up.

It’s also not the only bill out there like this. Florida has a similar bill moving through its House at the moment.(2) But that’s Florida. You expect that of Florida.

Presumably the bills are meant to give parents (and state politicians) the ability to make sure that teachers aren’t saying anything about, you know, things like Liberalism and Homosexuality (gasp). But, there is such a malevolence about them that I kinda think that the real issue is that the GOP just hates teachers and wants to humiliate them.

Or, to put another way…you know that snot-nosed little bully from the sixth grade that Mrs. Patrick caught tormenting a second grader and he got suspended for a week and then later failed eighth grade twice?

Well, he grew up to be a state senator. And a Republican.

And now he’s out for revenge.
