Recently, I have been watching and worrying while America and the world continue to wrestle with Covid. The vaccines seem to be doing their job—thank God — and even the dreaded Delta variant of the disease appears to be kept in check by the injections.
What concerns me, though, is that not everyone has gotten a shot. In fact, there are people out there who are actively avoiding the vaccines because of some bizarre idea that it might be bad for their health, as though dying of Covid would be good for you.

Worse though…far worse…is that there are people and organizations out there actively spreading anti-vaccine propaganda. And by propaganda, I mean outright lies. And the people spreading them range from batshit-crazy QAnonners to well-coiffured pundits on mainstream news services.
I won’t name them, of course, because I don’t want to get sued up the wazoo, but the reality is that they are there, and they are a real danger. People who listen to them, and believe them, and don’t get their shots, are at vastly greater risk of catching the disease, and, frankly, dying of it.
Which makes me wonder, what could possibly be such people’s motivation for spreading such pernicious misinformation? I honestly don’t have a clue. Though, I suppose some of them do suffer from some sort of mental illness which makes them incapable of telling the difference between falsehood and reality. I suppose, too, some of them honestly …if stupidly…believe what they’re saying, even though there isn’t evidence for their position. But then, what’s evidence when passions get involved?
And some, finally, may know that they’re speaking nonsense, but feel they can profit from it. Maybe they think they’ll get readers for their blog, or donations for their PAC, or votes in their run for Congress. In other words, they are completely mercenary.
Which brings up another question…
To wit, what kind of person would be so avaricious? So, well, greedy as to consign others to illness, or even a long and lingering death…solely for their own benefit? For a few more blog readers? Or a few more $25 donations to their PAC?
And do they ever look in the mirror and think…
What a truly horrid monster I am?

Onward and Upward.
